Each client’s assessment plan is tailored to their own individual needs. For most clients, an intellectual ability assessment and comprehensive academic assessment will be conducted.
Additional neuropsychological assessments may also be utilized. Assessment appointments generally take about 3 hours total. After scheduling your appointment, you will receive an invitation to join our online client portal where you will complete forms prior to the appointment.
An academic achievement test is a type of test used to determine an individual’s academic skill and knowledge level in a specific area. Our clinic utilizes several different academic assessments including the Kaufman Test of Educational Achievement, the Wechsler Individual Achievement Test, the Woodcock Johnson Tests of Achievement, The Tests of Dyslexia, and the Feifer Assessment of Reading.
An intelligence test measures cognitive ability and how a person thinks, reasons, and solves problems. These assessments evaluate both fluid reasoning — the ability to think through new situations — and crystallized skills, which reflect accumulated knowledge and vocabulary. Results provide valuable insight into an individual's cognitive strengths and weaknesses, and help distinguish between global cognitive challenges, such as intellectual disability, and more specific learning disabilities or language disorders.
At Axelrod Psychological Services, we select the assessment tool that is most appropriate for each client's age and needs:
Intelligence assessments are also used to evaluate questions of giftedness.
Neuropsychological assessments provide a deeper look at how the brain processes information, regulates attention, and supports behavior and learning. Our clinic utilizes a range of specialized tools — including the Conners Continuous Performance Test, the NEPSY-2, and Wechsler Memory Scales — to evaluate concerns related to ADHD, learning disorders, and other psychological conditions.
Behavior rating scales are an essential component of every evaluation, regardless of whether behavioral concerns have been identified. Understanding how a child functions across different settings — at home, in school, and socially — provides a fuller, more accurate picture of their strengths and needs. We utilize several well-established rating scales, including the Conners 4, the BRIEF-2, and the BASC, selecting additional measures as clinically appropriate. Because a comprehensive evaluation requires input from multiple perspectives, families of school-age children will be asked to share a rating scale link with their child's teachers. This ensures that we capture a complete view of your child's functioning across all settings — not just in the evaluation room.
The cost for a comprehensive psychoeducational evaluation is a flat rate of $600. We
unfortunately do not bill insurance as insurance rarely covers educational testing
unless it is deemed medically necessary or part of a larger neuropsychological
evaluation. We do take credit cards, checks, and FSA/HSA credit cards. Payment plans
are available upon request.
